ADULT BIBLE STUDY– 4-Plex following worship RESUMING Sept 13th! Jim Johnson will lead a study on the Gospel of John. We will use three Augsburg resources for our study: Books of Faith: John; Together by Grace/Bible Conversations: John; and Fortress Introduction to The Gospels by Mark Allan Powell. Grab a donut and a cup of coffee after service and bring it down to the Quad room. (That's the classroom with four doors,) The class will start at 10:50 and end at 11:50. All are welcome. Please join us. |
WELCOME BACK! Sunday School for Children & Youth will be held TWICE in October starting at 10:50 AM. We are splitting the group into two age groups, one for Elementary children and one for Youth grades 5th -12th. There will be some large group activities that will include both groups but a majority of our youth are 5th grade or older so I hope this split will help us have age-appropriate lessons and activities for each group. WELCOME BACK! Adult Bible Study will start on September 13th at 10:50, ending at 11:50! Sunday School will begin with Rally Day at 4:00 pm on Sunday, Sept 13. Regular Sunday School Classes will begin at 10:50 on Sunday, Sept 20. Children everywhere are invited to join us. I have always LOVED Sunday School! Even as an adult, I've found that even though I think I understand a scripture or story, when I go back - even years later, to re-read a section or a verse, it has unique applicability to my life for RIGHT NOW or a piece of wisdom that I didn't catch in many prior readings of that same verse. The Psalmist in Psalm 119:105 writes: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. This verse tells me that Sunday School and Bible Study are the key tool we give to our children and study ourselves because it provides us the guidelines - a PATH - for walking in our faith and growing to mature as a Christiam. If you think about going through the woods and your lamp (flashlight) goes out, you're more likely to make a misstep or go the wrong way without that LIGHT to lead you where you are going. God's Word is that LIGHT for our path! WE need Sunday School TEACHERS. Due to the low number of youth and children at ULC, our Sunday School is very small. What we're going to try this year is a weekly Sunday School class starting at 10:50 AM. We have a few children that are 'dual families' where they stay with one parent alternating weekends. We also have a lot of children and youth that may be very active in sports or other school activities on the weekends. So having a weekly study for both the children and the Youth will provide an opportunity for everyone to be able to attend on Sundays when they can. I am looking for 10 to 15 Adults - to volunteer to teach once a month. There are two classes: Children (ages 4-3rd Grade) and the Youth (4th- High School). This means we will not only share the burden, but we can be flexible. If I can get 10 people to volunteer, each volunteer would teach/help, one Sunday every month. This lets us be a bit more flexible in scheduling when it is needed. If we have a Sunday where there aren't any Youth or Children- the teachers that week get a bonus Sunday off. I'm working to develop short plans for each Sunday based on the Common Lectionary we use. The planning packet will include the Bible Story/Verses for the week as well ideas and materials for a craft or activity. This way it should reduce prep time for each teacher. PLEASE PRAY for our Sunday School. We may be small but we have great kids who need adults to help them meet Jesus and learn God's word! |
