Monday, March 16 9:30 am Gary McCarty "The Dulcimer Guy" Everyone Is Welcome! Lifelong musician Gary McCarty will play the hammered dulcimer for us on March 16. We've rescheduled because Gary couldn't make our February meeting.
He took up the hammered dulcimer about 10 years ago after hearing it played at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. Gary told the Weekly Vista, "I love the sound of it. In some cultures, the instrument predates the major-minor scale. It's a very, very old instrument, found in almost every culture of the world in various configurations. The more I learn, it's just ingenious.” He spent much of his career as a school band director and then went to work for a local music store as a school representative. He and his wife moved here when they retired. This will be a wonderful treat
