United is a ONE Lutheran Church

Working to serve God and end poverty

PHOEBES

The PHOEBES are a visitation group that was founded by Lillian Hoffman when she was president of the Women of the Church in 1986-1987.

She saw a need for calls to be made to shut-in members and those recovering from an illness or surgery.  Harold Peterson was the first pastor to help with this group.

New Members are also visited to welcome them into our church family and activities.

Fred Schaap is our visitation leader now.  He meets with us on the 3rd Wednesday at 9:00 and we get our assignments for the month at that time.  We have a partner and we arrange the calls any time during the month.  Dorothea Paul and Margaret Seba make up the lists for each month after we receive the names from Fred Schaap.

Over 300 calls a year are made by our PHOEBES.

All are welcome to join us.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild at United is responsible for preparing the church and the altar for Holy Communion, placing banners, changing paraments to match the church year, putting flowers in stands and decorating the church for special events such as Advent, Lent, Easter, weddings and funerals. The Guild is made up of 6 teams of 2 women ably led by Jane Nelson. The teams serve for two months each year, and they also attend monthly meetings. The Altar Guild welcomes anyone who wants to serve our congregation in this meaningful way.
